On February 2, 2024, Böllinghaus Steel celebrates its 135th anniversary and proudly looks back on an impressive history.
Since its humble beginnings more than a century ago in Remscheid, North Rhine-Westphalia, the family business has continued to develop and, under the leadership of Hartwig Härtel and his daughter Nina Härtel, has established itself as a specialist in stainless steel profiles. Today, Böllinghaus supplies various sectors worldwide, such as the aerospace industry, oil and gas industry, medical technology and many other sectors with a technical focus.
A milestone in the history of Böllinghaus Steel was the decision to include stainless steel in the product portfolio, a pioneering measure under the leadership of Hartwig Härtel. This strategic decision enabled the company to establish itself as a specialist for high-quality stainless steel profiles and expand its presence in various industries worldwide. While many other companies produced round profiles, Böllinghaus decided to focus more on niche products such as flat, square, hexagonal and special profiles, which brought the company great success.
The relocation of production to Vieira de Leiria in Portugal in 1996 was a further step that boosted Böllinghaus Steel's success. This decision not only enabled more efficient production, but also ensured that the company could meet international standards and requirements. Today, more than 250 employees work at the plant. The opening of the state-of-the-art hot rolling mill in Vieira de Leiria in 2023 marks another highlight in Böllinghaus Steel's success story. As a result, the company further increased product quality and significantly expanded its range of dimensions - enabling it to enter new industries.
